The Compact with the Voluntary and Community Sector

The Compact is a way of working – it is a statement of values and principles which underpin the relationship between the council and the VCS. There is a national Compact adopted by central government and most local authorities have their own compacts with the VCS in their area. Often, other public bodies sign up to their local compact. Here in Tower Hamlets, the council has been working with the VCS to refresh and renew the local Compact.

This renewed commitment from the council to work in partnership with local communities and organisations will help give people in Tower Hamlets confidence that the council values and respects their views and should also help make sure the council and the VCS work together in a more transparent and accountable way to achieve change.

During 2017 the council and the VCS worked together to produce a new Compact. This will be considered by the council’s Cabinet on 20 March 2018 and, from 13 March you can read the report from Cabinet - 20 March 2018.

The Compact will be formally launched in the summer. Details will be posted on this page when they are available.

The Compact will be reviewed in 2019. However, we welcome comments at any time. If you have any comments or questions, please contact David Freeman, VCS Strategy Manager at david.freeman@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
