Money management

London Capital Credit Union have a range of services including low cost saver loans and instant loans. There are three offices in Tower Hamlets: Tel: 020 7729 9218.

‘Made of Money’ works with people to prevent financial problems becoming unmanageable, helping individuals and families take control of their money and offer practical advice around budgeting, saving, credit, and debt. QSA train people in community groups, housing associations, schools, and local authorities across the UK to use the Made of Money course in their own communities.

Help finding work

There are a number of local organisations which can help with job seeking. Download a list of employment support services or go the the DWP jobseekers site.

Emotional support

It’s particularly important that the most vulnerable residents are well-supported to manage their stress levels and mental health needs. Mind in Tower Hamlets is a useful local resource call 020 7510 1081.

Parents with disabled children

Parents with a disabled child may be entitled to additional benefits or support. Please view the checklist which provides a good overview of the support available.

Sanctions

if you are working with a person who has had their benefit sanctioned, you may be able to support them to appeal the decision. Island Advice have produced a useful factsheet and supporting letter to help the appeal process.

Referrals for  specialist advice and representation

The Legal Advice Centre are taking referrals for appeals ESA/DLA/PIP WB cases that have hearing dates where client has received the bundle and has hearing date.

If you would like to make a referral please email admin@legaladvicecentre.org.uk including ‘referral’ in subject headline. They have trained up 20 law students to do the appeals and so far have covered every appeal hearing since the project went live.

The law centre are also taking referrals for welfare benefits, immigration, housing and education. You can get advice and book appointments by telephone as the centre is being refurbished. Clients currently access through the side of the building.

Citizen's Advice Bureau is holding a Tuesday evening legal advice surgery and have in house employment solicitors. Clients need to phone or come to the drop in sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays to access the appointment service.
