Community cohesion plan consultation

Have your say on Our Tower Hamlets – a plan for a more cohesive community 2020- 2025

We are one of UK’s most culturally vibrant and diverse areas. We’re a densely populated borough with over 300,000 people living within eight square miles at the heart of the East End.

For centuries we have welcomed and been home for many immigrants to Britain – including:

  • Huguenots,
  • Jews,
  • Bangladeshis
  • and more recently from different parts of Europe.

Today, 55 percent of our population are from black and minority ethnic (BAME) communities.

With the City fringe and Canary Wharf, Tower Hamlets has attracted more affluent residents in recent years. However, deprivation and poverty continue to be major issues that need to be addressed.

We want to ensure that Tower Hamlets continues to be a place where people from all backgrounds get on with each other and are given the opportunities to succeed.

We are now consulating on ‘Our Tower Hamlets: a plan for a more cohesive community’ which is our five year plan to encourage even greater community cohesion in the future.

The closing date for this consultation is 8 December 2019.
