Raines House: Proposals to create a Community Hub

The council is developing a network of community hubs across the borough. These are versatile, bookable spaces, designed to allow multiple community groups to use the building at the same time.

As part of this the council has proposed to transform Raines House into a community hub. Raines House is a two-storey Grade II listed building located on Raine Street off Wapping Lane. The proposed changes aim to refurbish and remodel the building including the repair and improvement of the interior and exterior while protecting its Grade II listed heritage. The refurbished building will provide high-quality facilities, including:

  • a large hall or meeting space
  • a small community rooms
  • a kitchen.
  • free Wi-Fi
  • multimedia facilities
  • secure lockable storage
  • a new lift to provide disabled access to the first floor
  • accessible toilets with baby changing facilities.

The council conducted an initial consultation with the local community on Saturday 27 January 2018. Check out the feedback from the event.

The council is now carrying out a third consultation with the local community after taking into account the feedback from previous consultation events.
