Reception SEND questionnaire
Head teachers have voiced their concerns about the number of children entering Reception classes with unidentified inclusion and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The Maternity & Early Years (MEY) sub group of Born Well Growing Well (BWGW) plan to find out the reasons behind this.
The survey asks colleagues in Reception classes to identify children for this study. Schools will need to consider who the correct person to undertake the survey is. This may be the Head Teacher, the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) or the Early Years Foundation Stage Coordinator (EYFSCo).
- There must be one survey completed per child
- When completing the survey, please bear in mind information governance considerations.
- The survey should take around five minutes to complete.
We will complete the analysis of the early years’ experiences of children identified in the survey. From this, we aim to see how well services worked with the families before children arrived at school.
The council would like to emphasise how much we appreciate that Head Teachers continue to carry out their duty to admit children with inclusion needs and SEND.
