Columbia Road – Proposed Changes to Market Designation
In response to feedback from traders and visitors about over-crowding in Columbia Road Market, the Council is considering making changes to the layout of market. This is being considered to increase public safety and ease congestion in the market, and our over-riding objective is to ensure that Columbia Road Market continues to be one of London's leading working markets.
Below is a map showing the existing layout.
The Council has some initial thoughts on potential layouts but we want to hear from traders, shop owners and residents about your ideas.
Your feedback and input is very important, and we hope you will be able to attend one of our sessions.

Traders are invited to discuss these ideas and to suggest their own on Sunday 26 November between 9.30am and 3pm.
This open session for market traders will be located at Columbia Road Youth Centre (First floor), 27 Columbia Road, E2 7QB (Ravenscroft Park).

Please note no lifts are available at Columbia Road Youth Centre.
at Tower Hamlets Professional Development Centre (PDC) 229 Bethnal Green Road, London E2 6AB, on Thursday 30th November 2017 between 6pm and 9pm.
The following will be available:
- Initial thoughts about potential layouts
- Information Board including thinking around how any new layout would impact parking, access etc
- other potential benefits, including safety improvements, better cycle parking etc
- Comments Board
The Council is also considering a modification to the trading time to allow a slightly later closing time than the current 2pm, which has over time become less well observed. Your views will also be sought on this at this session.
The purpose of this open session is to gather your views as licenced traders (Business Owners/Residents) so that the Council can consider all of the responses before developing firm proposals for full consultation next year.
