Planning application fees and charges

In most cases, you will need to pay a fee when submitting your planning application. We cannot process an application until we receive the correct fee.

Planning fees are set nationally.

You can check the cost of your planning application by using the fee calculator.

You can also check the full list of fees on the Planning Portal

Application fees are increasing from 6 December 2023

Starting on 6 December 2023, all fees you have to pay to local planning authorities will increase. This applies to applications made or considered to be made under the 2012 Fees Regulations. The Town and Country Planning (Fees for Applications, Deemed Applications, Requests, and Site Visits) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 will be in effect.

For major development applications, the fees will go up by 35 per cent. For all other applications, the fees will go up by 25 per cent.

You can view the new fees on the Planning Portal.

How to pay

If you use the Planning Portal to make your planning application, you can only pay with a debit card when you submit it.

If you don't use the Planning Portal, you can pay by BACS. This process takes longer than a Planning Portal submission, so you need to wait several working days after submitting your application to hear back from us.

After you register and verify your application, you will be given a registered application number and our BACS details.

Cheque payments are not accepted.
