Accepted items for bulk waste collection

What we will collect

Each household can arrange two free collections per year. Up to five items can be taken away per collection by the council’s Clean team.

We will provide a collection service for residents to dispose of any unwanted bulky furniture. Here is a list of what we can take:

  • wardrobes

  • tables

  • chairs

  • armchairs

  • mattresses

  • bed (base/frame and headboard count as 1 item)

  • bathroom furniture (plastic only, each piece counts as 1 item)

  • appliances

  • storage heaters

  • water tanks (plastic)

  • carpet, floor covering & rugs - rolled & tied

  • sheds - need to be dismantled

  • doors - internal only, no windows

  • small electrical items

  • fence panels - up to 5

  • bikes

  • bookcases

  • cabinets

  • computers

  • cookers

  • cupboards

  • desks

  • dishwashers

  • drawers

  • fridge / freezers

  • lamps

  • metal furniture

  • microwaves

  • mirrors

  • sofa/settees

  • TVs

  • vacuum cleaners

  • washing machine/dryers

  • up to 5 black bags (these cannot contain builder’s rubble/waste or any of the other items listed below)

What we will not collect

We cannot collect DIY or builders' waste. This is waste produced from home improvements and anything once part of the fabric, fixtures or fittings of your home. We collect residents' rubbish only. We will not collect waste produced by contractors, fitters etc.

We will not collect any waste from landlords (as well as managing agents and housing organisations), tradesman or businesses.

We won't collect:

  • gas bottles/canisters

  • chemicals

  • asbestos - the City of London can arrange an asbestos collection

  • paint

  • oils

  • car parts and batteries 

  • fluorescent tubes

  • storage heaters

  • tiles

  • plaster boards

  • builder’s rubble/waste

  • garage doors

  • external door

  • decking

  • fire surrounds

  • American fridge (containing double doors that open from the middle outwards)

  • pianos

  • safes

  • soil

  • trees

  • water tank (metal)

  • wheelchairs

  • windows

  • wooden pallets

  • baths – cast iron

  • car parts

  • glass

  • snooker tables – full size
