Many of our adults with learning disability are not able to express their needs and wishes. We use Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems (AAC) which include Makaton, Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) and Objects of Reference.
We have licensed and trained professionals as well as skilled Makaton peers Tutors to support and improve your communication.
Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to allow people to communicate. Makaton transforms the lives of people with communication difficulties, by:
- giving them a way to express themselves independently,
- helping them to build confidence and
- social inclusion.
We meet every Wednesday, 11am to 3:30pm
Anyone with learning disabilities who is able to join these groups can be an active member can join by emailing us.
Led by users, this is a quality assurance project to check that health and social care services are meeting LD users’ needs.
