Key Theme Seven

Key Theme 7: Living well with dementia.

This section of the strategy tells you:

  1. What we have identified as the key priorities relating to this theme;
  2. Why we have identified these key priorities;
  3. What we plan to do to make a positive difference.

Many of the plans set out in this and other themes in the Ageing Well strategy are ambitious, and will require close and effective partnerships across a range of local organisations from the statutory, community and private sectors and, crucially, with local communities for these ambitions to be realised.

The prevalence of dementia in the older population continues to increase and has significant implications both for individuals living with dementia and their families and for the health and social care sector in providing care and support to those individuals affected.

Supporting and enabling people to live well with dementia must, therefore be a key priority for action locally. This includes ensuring that families are supported to continue to care for their relative with dementia for as long as is practicably possible.

Update Spring 2018

During 2017 we have made contact with relevant organisations such as Alzheimer's Society and Age UK. These conversations are informing the action plan which is still in development.
