Vehicle Off the Road Temporary Permit Application

How do you qualify for an off-the-road temporary permit?

You need to have an active on-street parking permit. (This does not apply to a daily, weekly or temporary permit.) Your vehicle with an active permit must be off-the-road and being repaired.

What documents are required to submit an application?

A document from the insurance company, repairers or Storage Company dated within 7 days of your application to confirm that the vehicle is off-the-road and the vehicle registration number. You will also need the the courtesy, hire, or rental agreement showing your full name and the replacement vehicle registration number.

Or, a document from the insurance company, repairers or Storage Company dated within 7 days of your application to confirm that the vehicle is off-the-road and the vehicle registration number. If you are using a relative or friend's vehicle you'll need your insurance certificate to show that you are specifically insured to drive another vehicle.

How long will the temporary permit be issued for?

A free temporary permit will be issued for a maximum of 14 days during your permit duration. If your proof document states an earlier return date or your full permit expires within 14 days.

After those 14 days you will have to make alternative parking arrangements (excluding a car free property), such as applying for a full permit for the replacement vehicle. This does not apply if you live in a car free property, therefore, after 14 days you will have to apply for another free temporary permit.

What about car free properties?

If you live in a car free property you can renew your temporary permit for a further 14 days providing you complete a new application and meet the conditions. If your vehicle is still off-the-road after the maximum of 28 days you will have to make alternative parking arrangements or you should consider returning your full permit and making a new application for the replacement vehicle if it is a hired vehicle.
