Boishakhi Mela 2021

Boishakhi Mela 2021

Tower Hamlets Council understands the value of the Boishakhi Mela and makes every effort to ensure its success. Covid-19 prevented public events from taking place last year and continues to have an impact on events this year, particularly very well attended events such as the Mela which an estimated 45,000 people attended in 2019.

Given the ongoing coronavirus situation and the enormous financial challenge facing the council, we will be considering how best to support the delivery of the Mela in future.

This year, we have earmarked a £50k budget to help support cultural activities connected to the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh.

Mayor John Biggs said: "I am delighted that the Boishakhi Mela is back in Banglatown in 2019 and hope the whole community can come together for this colourful and vibrant celebration of Bengali New Year."
