Sustainability

The council is committed to sustainable development, continuously improving its services, policies and practices to contribute to a better quality of life for everyone now, and in the future.

Sustainable development considers the balance between environmental, economic and social issues of today's activities. Environmental issues are now at the heart of sustainable development as we recognise our dependence on the earth’s resources.

Tower Hamlets Sustainability Conference

The Sustainable Development Team in partnership with the Institute of Sustainability had its first Sustainability Conference. Local organisations, community groups and residents had their say and discovered how to get involved and shape a better sustainable Borough. Further information on the conference will be posted in due course.

Tower Hamlets EnergyTower Hamlets Energy – Community Power

“As Mayor of Tower Hamlets I am establishing an energy co-operative for Tower Hamlets that looks to provide cheaper energy to residents. By harnessing the collective buying power of many, the co-operative will be able to deliver cut price energy to the community, ” said Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman.

We are asking residents to express their interest in switching their energy supplier to access cheaper energy in the future through Tower Hamlets Energy.

Along with cheaper energy Tower Hamlets Energy will provide:

  • Energy Efficiency Advice through qualified advisors
  • Ending Fuel Poverty Advice through income maximisation and benefit entitlement checks
  • Renewable Energy Advice
