Parks and open spaces

Tower Hamlets has many diverse parks, gardens and open spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy. Play areas for children, leisure and recreational facilities, nature reserves, walking trails and live events are just a few of the things that can be enjoyed in the borough’s parks and open spaces.

The council provides a park ranger service and is responsible for the maintenance of wide variety of parks and green spaces in the area.

Tower Hamlets has won many awards for its floral delights and the quality and management of its parks and open spaces, including the Green Flag Award. Winning a Green Flag Award is a sign of prestige and excellence and currently six parks and open spaces in the borough have received this award.

Some of Tower Hamlets' parks:

  • Bethnal Green Gardens
  • Cemetery Park
  • Island Gardens
  • Mile End Park
  • Mudchute Park
  • St George’s Gardens
  • Victoria Park

Park Capital Improvement Programme

This year the council is spending almost £2 million on park improvements.

Coupled with more than £5 million that has been spent on parks since 2006, this represents one of the largest investments that the borough’s open spaces have ever seen.Prospect Park play equipment
