
Mayor Lutfur Rahman re-elected
Lutfur Rahman has been elected as the Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets. The Aspire Party candidate received 35,679 votes. The electorate figure was 219,030 and there was a turnout of 42.1 per cent.
The Tower Hamlets Election Count was held at ExCel London on Friday 8 May.

Stephen Halsey, Returning Officer for Tower Hamlets said:
“I want to thank and congratulate everyone who worked on the election for delivering another excellent example of running a sound democratic process.
“Tower Hamlets has some of the best election processes anywhere in the country. From the 800 people working at our polling stations and at the election count, to our partners including Tower Hamlets Police and the Electoral Commission, we all came together to support people of Tower Hamlets to exercise their democratic right.
“The work continues tomorrow with the count for the council’s ward councillors.”
Following the Executive Mayor count today, there will be a further count taking place tomorrow also at ExCel London for 45 Tower Hamlets Councillors representing 20 Borough Wards.
The count is expected to start from 8.30am on Saturday 9 May, and the results from each ward will be published on the council’s website and social media channels.
