How to apply

Each role will have an application form for you to complete in order to apply. We have written some guidance to assist you in completing your application form. Please read it before you start your application. The application form will automatically time out after 90 minutes, so please ensure you save your progress regularly.

Ensure you complete the application fully before returning it. If there are any gaps on the form and you are invited to interview you may be questioned on this.

If you do not understand anything on the form or need help in completing the form in an alternative format, for example; large print, please contact the recruitment team.

The council’s preference is for on-line application forms. However if you have a disability and are unable to complete an online application, please ring the People Resourcing Teament team directly on 020 7364 6400 or email the team at recruitment@towerhamlets.gov.uk and specify that you require a paper application form.

Late applications

If you start your application and do not complete it before the closing date as advertised, you will not be able to submit your application. The deadline for all applications is 11.59pm on the closing date

Decisions on short-listing

If you have been unsuccessful at the short-listing stage you will receive an email advising you of this to the email account you provided when applying for the role.

Use of clearance, reference and tests

The council does sometimes incorporate tests and/or practical exercises in the selection process. If you are short-listed for a post, you will be informed if any form of assessment is to take place.

We are committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of the children and vulnerable adults we provide services to in Tower Hamlets. Therefore any appointments to a role which involves working with these groups will be subject to a DBS and Reference Checks.

Please note all offers of appointment are subject to the following:

  • medical clearance
  • two references that are satisfactory to the council
  • sight of professional qualifications (if this is a requirement of the post)

Any other requirements which are applicable to the post for which you will be notified during the selection process, for example a driving test.

Council use of DBS disclosures

The council is committed to safeguarding the vulnerable members of our community. Therefore, if you are offered a post which requires you to work with either Children or Vulnerable Adults, you will be offered the role subject to receipt of a satisfactory DBS disclosure. If the role requires a DBS, this information will be available in the advertisement.
