Applications for a place on the programme will open on 5 October and close at the end of November. Those selected to take part will receive a detailed action plan for their business as well as further professional advice and equipment worth up to £1,000 to help with implementing changes.

The support is available for micro and small businesses, employing up to 49 people, that were trading prior to the pandemic.  While 50 firms will be selected for the Pivot Project specifically, council officers will ensure that any applicants that either don’t meet the eligibility criteria or don’t quite make the cut for this programme, will be supported to access other assistance available wherever possible.

Kickstart

Is your organisation able to create a role to provide a young person with the work experience that they need to begin their future career?

Would you like these costs covered by the government?

The government has now launched its recently announced £2 billion Kickstart scheme to help create hundreds of meaningful jobs for young people aged 16-24, who are currently claiming Universal Credit.

Tower Hamlets Council via the Supported Employment team is acting as an intermediary for the Kickstart scheme. We are keen to support organisations that are unable to offer the government’s 30 placement threshold but who may want to participate in this scheme, to establish quality placements.

These opportunities need to provide six month long employment roles for young people aged 16–24.
The government  will pay 100 per cent of the age-relevant National Minimum Wage, National Insurance and pension contributions for 25 hours a week. They will also pay employers £1500 towards set up support and training for people on a placement as well as other set up costs.

If you’re interested in providing a placement for an unemployed young person, or for further information please contact kickstart@towerhamlets.gov.uk or 020 7364 2869.

We've already started building to deliver our target of 2,000 homes by 2022 but there's lots more to come.

Is there a patch of vacant land near you that’s sitting empty, or a row of garages no longer used? Do you know of a building that is derelict or a car park that’s become overgrown?

Help us by suggesting where we should build next by taking part in our simple Build Here consultation.

Answer:

We’re delivering 2,000 new council homes across Tower Hamlets. These genuinely affordable homes will include properties big enough for families. One in ten will be wheelchair accessible.

But we can’t tackle this crisis alone.

That’s why we’re also working with our housing association partners to help them build even more affordable homes for our residents.

We’re making it clear to private developers that when they build in Tower Hamlets, between 35% and 50% of the new homes in each development should be genuinely affordable.

We also make it a condition that if they want to build here, they need to pay for GP surgeries, roads and other vital infrastructure to support existing residents and those making a new home here.

The council is helping VCS organisations with free access to volunteers through our volunteering hub with Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets.

We will continue to fund VCS partners, including organisations whose grants are due to come to an end, and will contact organisations that might qualify for a three-month rent holiday.

Financial support is available through local, regional and national grant schemes, which can help organisations in Tower Hamlets with unexpected costs, loss of income or new projects.

Information is available from the National Council for Voluntary Organisations to help VCS organisations prepare for the potential impacts of coronavirus on their operations or finances.

Answer:

A valid EWS1 form can affect the buying, selling or the re-mortgaging of a property in one of two ways. The EWS form will either:

i. Confirm that there are no combustible materials; or

ii. Recommend that remedial works are carried out.

Where a building is found to need remedial works, these works will need to be carried out by the building owner, to ensure the safety of the building, The remedial work has to be completed before a mortgage can proceed unless the lender agrees otherwise.
