Council hosting event for local contractors to help build £60m leisure and housing scheme

Tower Hamlets Council is hosting a local Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) supplier engagement day for contractors interested in assisting with the delivery of the St George’s Leisure Centre redevelopment.

The scheme will provide high quality leisure facilities alongside new council owned homes, including:

  • A new fit for purpose leisure facility with wet and dry health and wellbeing facilities
  • 29 council owned homes
  • Associated landscape improvements to the park and the wider public realm

The main tender for a principal contractor will launch in spring 2025, with more detailed information available on the London Tender portal.

Cllr Musthak Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Enterprise, Skills and Growth, said: “We want to ensure that any contractor supporting the St George’s Leisure Centre redevelopment has a robust and ambitious approach to engaging with local SME suppliers, so that the council’s investment in this project achieves the maximum possible level of economic and social benefit to communities in Tower Hamlets.

“The engagement event will offer a unique opportunity for local SMEs to meet the project team and gain knowledge on key work packages that they may be able to assist with.”

The event will take place on 28 May, 11am to 1pm at Tower Hamlets Council Town Hall. Anyone interested in attending the SME engagement event can register online.
