Food waste going into a bin
According to Love Food Hate Waste, UK households waste 4.5m tonnes of edible food each year, enough to fill 90 Royal Albert Halls. Growing, processing, packaging and transporting the food we eat all contribute to climate change. And then when we throw it away, it rots and releases more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Making the most of our food will not only save us money, it will help us eat better and fight climate change.
In this workshop, we will teach you how to make our favourite recipes that reduce food waste without sacrificing taste. We will also share easy tips on minimising waste. These tips include planning, buying, storing and disposing of food.
We will show you how to make
- fancy French-style croutons with stale bread, herbs and garlic and make Panzanella, an Italian bread salad
- we will talk through how to incorporate different ingredients including fruits and leftover cooked rice, pasta, potatoes, or pulses to make delicious salads
- we will show you how to turn apples into scrap apple vinegar – so if you would like to join, please bring in a jar to take away.
