Waste service strike

A number of Tower Hamlets Council frontline waste service workers and street cleansers will be going on strike from 18 September to 1 October due to a national pay dispute.

Despite the council working to maintain services for residents, the strike will impact collections and cleansing across the borough. We apologise in advance for the disruption this will cause.

About Smokefree Tower Hamlets

It is against the law to smoke in virtually all public places and workplaces across England. Public transport and work vehicles are covered by the legislation, as are public places that are more than 50 per cent enclosed. ‘No smoking’ signs make it clear where people can’t smoke.

The council is working to ensure that local businesses and residents have access to the information and resources they need to comply with the laws.

For a summary of what the legislation means visit Smoke Free England’s quick guide to the laws.

If you live or work in Tower Hamlets and would like to make a fresh start and give up smoking visit our Public Health Help to give up smoking page.

Our areas of work include the Smoke Free Best Practice Award and Promoting a Smoke Free Business, Smoke Free Cars, Homes and Parks and Shisha lounges business guidance.
