Choosing the right school for your child
Every child is different. When choosing schools, you should consider:
- Your child’s interests and needs
- The school’s admissions criteria and likelihood of a place being offered
- The school’s strengths and ethos
- Travel distance and journey time
You can name multiple preferences. This gives you the best chance of securing a place at a school you are happy with.
Getting to and from school
Children of secondary school age can get free and discounted travel on all TfL services, including free travel on buses – please visit Keeping London moving - Transport for London for more information. All of our schools are accessible by public transport and the local council enforces active Sustainable Travel Plans (STPs) for every single school to encourage public transit, walking, and cycling.
It is expected that children should be able to travel independently to school, but if your child needs additional support please contact our award-winning Independent Travel Training (ITT) scheme for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The council provides support with home to school travel in exceptional circumstances only, and you would usually be expected to apply for your local schools before any support is considered.
When applying for a school place please remember that it will be your responsibility to ensure your child gets to and from school safely.
