Lithium battery fires

Lithium batteries have caused fires in the rubbish lorries. Please do not put batteries in your waste or recycling bin. All batteries (including lithium batteries from e-bikes and e-scooters and other re-chargeable devices) can be taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Northumberland Wharf.

Recycling sacks – where do I get them?

Never put recycling in black sacks.

  • I live in a block of flats: You don’t need sacks to recycle. Empty your recycling in to the communal bins loose or use any clear sack.
  • I live in a house or house converted into flats with a purple wheeled bin: You don’t need sacks to recycle. Empty your recycling into the bins loose or use any clear sack..
  • I live in a house or house converted into flats without a purple wheelie bin: Clear sacks are delivered twice yearly.
  • I live in a flat above a shop: Clear sacks are delivered twice every year.

What can I recycle?

You can recycle the following materials mixed together in your purple bin or clear sack.
