Cycle training for adults and families

Anyone who works, studies or lives in Tower Hamlets can take advantage of the free adult cycle training scheme. Family cycle training sessions are also available.

Family cycle training course

Family cycle training courses are available during school holidays, aimed at parents and accompanying children from years 3 to 6.  The courses are provided by Bikeworks on behalf of the council.  For further details visit the Bikeworks website or e-mail enquiries@bikeworks.org.uk

Cycle skills for adults

The cycle skills for adults programme offers one-to-one (although if preferred, trainees can book in pairs) sessions with a qualified cycle instructor. For those who would prefer a female cycling instructor this can be arranged upon request. Anyone living, working or studying in Tower Hamlets is eligible for up to five hours of training for free.

Cycle skills sessions last for one or two hours and are available at a time and day of the week that suits you. Training is available for complete beginners through to experienced cyclists. Those either new or returning to cycling may wish to start their training on traffic-free paths in local parks near to where they live.  For further information and to book a session visit the Bikeworks website.

If you do not have your own bike, one can be borrowed for your lesson. You can now also take your cycle training sessions (at any level, from beginners to advanced cyclists) on Santander Cycles available from docking stations in the borough. Note that participants are required to pay the usage and access fees of the Santander Cycle Hire Scheme if you use those bikes for your training – see www.tfl.gov.uk/santandercycles for information on fees and membership options.

Cycle commuter training

We are now also able to offer cycle commuter training once you are at a competent level to cycle on the road. For these sessions, a professional instructor will help you to plan and ride the safest and most convenient route from home to work.   Each participant is entitled to two such hourly sessions.

For further information on these schemes or to book any kind of cycle training/cycle buddying session email enquiries@bikeworks.org.uk

Remember, if you work, live or study in Tower Hamlets the family and adult cycle skills sessions are free for you to use.
