Tower Hamlets Council has contributed to new and upgraded facilities
Visitors to Spitalfields City Farm can enjoy new and upgraded facilities this summer, thanks to the council’s contribution towards over £78k in improvement works.
Renovations include a fully upgraded kitchen; the replacement and relocation of old disabled toilets to a larger space, now incorporating showers; installation of three new toilet cubicles with sinks; new farmhouse-style doors to complement the overall aesthetic; a new drinking fountain; and a new boiler.
Additionally, new external wash stations have replaced the outdated bases. These include a canopy and under-station storage.
Pathway lighting leading onto the farm has been installed, addressing the issue of poor visibility during the winter months.
Council funded pathway levelling and barn up-grades are due to take place later this year.
Cllr Mohammed Kamrul Hussain, Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation, said: “Spitalfields City Farm offers a rare chance for children and adults to experience wildlife and nature in our inner-city borough. We are pleased to have contributed to these newly improved facilities which will have a positive impact on the farm, and individuals and families, especially those visiting during the school summer holidays.”
Philip Nichols, Chief Executive of Spitalfields City Farm, said: “More than 3,000 school children visit us annually. The old facilities including the toilets and kitchen were not fit for purpose. The funding for improvements has helped increase efficiency, which makes a real difference to the smooth running of the farm.”
