This fascinating walking conversation will tell stories of the East India Company and British Empire in the East India Dock area – the imports and exports, the need for the docks, impacts of its rule in the Indian subcontinent and the UK, ‘lascar’ seamen’s lives, racism and the invisibility of the histories of the EIC and the British Empire in the docks area today.

Dr Georgie Wemyss co-directs the research Centre for Migration, Refugees and Belonging at the University of East London. She has been leading walks focused on the invisible histories of the East India Docks with community groups and students for over two decades.
