My account for business rates
You can set up a secure online account to access and manage your business rates information at any time.
If your latest bill shows a credit and you want to request a refund you can apply using this service.
With an online account you can:
- Check the balance and details of your account
- Request a copy bill
- Request a refund
- View any reliefs you may have been granted
- Make a payment (these will take three days to show on your account)
- Change your method of payment to direct debit (if the bank account is in your name)
- Tell us about your change of address or contact details
Sign up for online access
Once your online access has been approved, we will email you your user ID and password.
User IDs are allocated to companies/individuals who are responsible for paying business rates on properties in the borough.

How to pay your business rates
You can pay your business rates by any of the following methods. You will need your rate account number which you will find on the front of your bill.
Please note we no longer accept payments made using the Barclays Pingit service.
Pay by direct debit
The easiest way to pay is by direct debit. To set this up you will need to provide your
- Bank/building society account holder name
- Bank/building society account number and sort code
- 8 digit business rates reference number

Pay online or over the phone
Go to the Tower Hamlets Web Payments page for our 24 hour secure internet payments service. You may make a variety of payments using this secure site with most major credit or debit cards (not Diners Card, American Express or Solo).
You can also call our 24 hour automated service on 020 7364 3800. You can pay with most major credit or debit cards (not Diners Card, American Express or Solo).
Other payment options
By telephone or online banking with your bank or with a BACS/CHAPS transfer

Paying from outside the UK
If you are paying in a currency other than sterling you must cover any shortfall resulting from the exchange rate or costs associated with converting the payment into the other currency.
