3. Our Key Equality Priorities
The council adopted a new Strategic Plan 2022-26, which sets out our priorities, ambitions, and actions. Specifically, the Strategic Plan outlines our commitment to equality and community cohesion and sets the following equality objectives:
- Work with communities across the borough to bring people together from different backgrounds and promote understanding.
- Uphold and protect equality and diversity in all circumstances.
- Address inequalities particularly those faced by Bangladeshi and Somali communities.
- Improve safety and opportunities for women.
- Ensure our workforce reflects the community.
The priorities and actions that will achieve the ambitions of our Corporate Equalities Plan 2024-26 are set out over the next few pages. These directly reflect the equality objectives we have set in our Strategic Plan, and by delivering against these we are confident we will achieve our ambition to ensure that Tower Hamlets is a great place for all of our residents; that we deliver best practice in terms of fulfilling our duties under the Equality Act; and that we will be a great employer that has a workforce that reflects our community.
