Lithium battery fires

Lithium batteries have caused fires in the rubbish lorries. Please do not put batteries in your waste or recycling bin. All batteries (including lithium batteries from e-bikes and e-scooters and other re-chargeable devices) can be taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Northumberland Wharf.

Hazardous substances

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 were introduced to control exposure to all substances hazardous to health arising from work activities.

The council usually has responsibility for ensuring that these regulations are adhered to by catering establishments, offices and shops.  The HSE (www.hse.gov.uk) is generally responsible for manufacturing premises.
