What are wasps?
They are flying insects that often nest in buildings. They can be aggressive and have a painful sting.
How do you identify wasps?
Wasps are:
- mainly yellow with black stripes in colour
- slim and smooth in shape with a narrow "waist"
- often found hovering around sugary food, drinks or bins
How do you identify a wasp nest?
A wasp nest is:
- made of a papery texture (from wasps chewing wood fibres)
- round or oval in shape
- often found in enclosed areas such as lofts, wall cavaties, sheds, roof eaves or underground
How do you get rid of a wasp nest?
It's best to get professional treatment.
Nest locations can be high or difficult to reach. There is often a risk of falling and injury.
Wasps can be dangerous in groups, even if you don't have allergies to their stings.

Can the council help get rid of wasps?
Yes, we have experienced pest controllers you can hire to treat the problem.
We can apply insecticide powder around the wasp nest entrance and exit. We can spray the nest directly.
We do not remove bees
We do not offer a refund if we are booked to get rid of wasps and on inspection they turn out to be bees.
If you think you may have bees on your property, the British Beekeepers Association has advice on how to identify the differences between bees and wasps.
Treatment costs
£81 per visit.
