Trees on estates
Trees make our streets, parks and estates look nicer. They clean the air, give shade and shelter and help wildlife. The council looks after thousands of trees to keep them healthy, safe and in good condition.
Tree management
Trees are regularly inspected to make sure they are safe and in good condition. Any maintenance work is carried out by specialist contractors on behalf of the council.
If you would like to report an issue or ask a question about tree care and maintenance, please email trees@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
Emergency tree works
The council operates 24-hour emergency service for council-owned trees or for private trees that have fallen onto council-owned land.
This service is for dangerous trees, such as:
- large hanging or broken branches
- a tree that is in danger of falling
- a tree that has already fallen.
For emergencies please call 020 7364 5000.
Tree planting programme
We have an annual tree planting programme across all council-owned land. If you know of an empty tree pit or would like to suggest a new planting site, please let us know by sending email to trees@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
Privately owned trees
Trees on private property may be subject to Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) or are protected as part of a conservation area.
Before carrying out any work on a tree, always contact the council's development team. For more advice for private tree owners, visit the Planning Services' Tree Management page.
If you have any queries regarding trees in the parks or on the highways, please contact Parks and Open Spaces.
