Idea Store offer a wide variety of regular activities, special events and exhibitions and author events for all ages and interests. Search Idea Store What's on.

Computers and internet

All Idea Stores and Libraries in Tower Hamlets have public computers that you can use for free to surf the net, create documents and access your email. Computers can be booked in advance with a choice of computer terminals and locations. Computer booking is open to members only, using their own Idea Store/library borrower card.

Home delivery service

If you have a disability or a long term health condition that makes it difficult to get to your local Idea Store or library and you do not have a family member, carer or friend who can pick up items on your behalf, then you may be entitled to our home delivery service. Idea Store Learning offers over 900 high quality courses in a wide range of subjects.
Whatever your reason for learning we have a course for you!
At an average cost of just £2.20 per hour, our courses are great value for money.

Local History Library & Archive

Local History services include:

  • Over 20,000 books and pamphlets dating from the 17th century to the present day 
  • Shipping Collection
  • Cuttings Collection which includes newspaper articles and printed ephemera
  • 25,000 photographs and illustrations
  • Over 2,000 maps and plans dating from Elizabethan times to the present day
  • Exhibitions
  • Microfilms including local census returns from 1841 to 1891, local newspapers, parish registers and trade directories
  • Audio-Visual Collections

Online Catalogue and eLibrary

The user friendly online catalogue gives you details of all titles in stock in Tower Hamlets and our London Libraries Consortium partners. Visit the online catalogue.

You will find details of books, CDs, DVDs, language courses and maps.

The catalogue tells you in which libraries and Idea Stores the titles are held, and whether they are currently available for you to borrow or reserve. You will also find descriptions and reviews of books and the option to buy new books from Amazon.
