Appeals process

If you disagree with this decision, you have the right to request an appeal. Your appeal must be submitted within 28 days of the decision date.

An appeal allows a senior officer, who was not involved in the original assessment, to review your case in full and issue a decision within 8 weeks of receiving your appeal.

To ensure your appeal can be considered, you must provide new or additional evidence that was not included in your original application or in response to the further‑evidence request. This helps us ensure that the final decision is fair, robust, and in line with the national eligibility criteria.

How to appeal

  1. Submit your request for an appeal in writing using the online portal.
  2. Provide new medical evidence relevant to your condition.
  3. A senior officer will carry out a full reassessment based on all available information.
  4. You will receive the outcome in writing once the review is complete.

Further Information

An appeal cannot be considered if you do not meet the eligibility criteria or if your application has not progressed to the next stage. If you do not meet the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) criteria, you will need to contact the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to report any change in your circumstances or if your condition has worsened.

A previous approval does not automatically guarantee future eligibility. We understand this can feel frustrating, especially for residents with lifelong conditions, but each application must be assessed using the most up‑to‑date evidence available at the time. Blue Badges are not issued indefinitely; eligibility is based on current criteria set out by the Department for Transport (DfT).

The DfT does not permit renewals to be granted solely on the basis of past entitlement or the length of time a badge has previously been held.

Once a final decision has been made on your application, if you remain dissatisfied, you may wish to take your challenge to the Local Governmnet and Social Care Ombudsman.
