Police investigating arson attack as hate crime

A spokesperson from Tower Hamlets Council said:

“We are disturbed to hear of a recent arson attack on an LGBTQ+ household, which has now been confirmed as being investigated by police as a hate crime.

“We are thankful that no one was injured in the fire and are now working closely with the police to offer reassurance to our communities and support for the victims.

“The council’s CCTV network and officers are involved with the ongoing investigation to help bring the perpetrator to justice.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said:

“Tower Hamlets is proudly a No Place for Hate borough and no one should feel unsafe because of their gender, sexual orientation, or any other reason.

“We are committed to working with our partners to tackle all forms of hate and discrimination for all the communities we serve.
