The Family Hubs programme was officially launched in the Southeast locality of Tower Hamlets on 15 February 2024.

Family Hubs bring together local services and advice for babies, children, young people turning 19 (or up to 25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), and their families, including Start for Life services for 0 – 2-year-olds.

The launch event marked the opening of the second Family Hub network which includes the areas of Blackwall and Cubitt Town, Poplar, and Isle of Dogs.

A large family-focused event took place in the newly branded Isle of Dogs Family Hub (previously known as the Isle of Dogs Children and Family Centre) and Millwall Park.

Over 20 Family Hubs partner organisations held stalls in the central marquee, including representatives from faith organisations, healthcare services, arts organisations and youth and education services.

Partners had the opportunity to speak to families, as well as networking with other professionals.

Cllr Maium Talukdar, Deputy Mayor of Tower Hamlets, addressed attendees and spoke about the commitment that the Council has to delivering the best opportunities for young people and families.

500 families and over 1,300 individuals enjoyed the free activities for families in the park, which included an artificial skating rink, peddle carts, boxing, helter-skelter, merry-go-round, donkey rides and arts and crafts activities.

Cllr Maium Talukdar said:

“Family Hubs make it easier for families to access services and support.

“It was great to have so many community members and services coming together for the launch event to experience Family Hubs partnership working first-hand.”
