Tower Hamlets Council has appointed Stephen Platt as its new Director of Housing Property and Asset Management.
Mr Platt, who for the past four years has been the Assistant Director of Property Services at Islington Council, will take up his new role at Tower Hamlets on 16 June 2025.
Stephen Platt, the new Director of Housing Property and Asset Management at Tower Hamlets Council, said:
“Tower Hamlets is a borough I know very well and it has always hugely appealed to me as a place I would want to come and work – a borough in a great location, next to the City, encompassing the historic East End and a fantastically diverse local population.
“I’m really excited to be taking on this role which will draw on my experience in responsive repairs, planned works, building safety and asset management.
“To have the responsibility to join up those services and make sure they are delivering on the priorities for both the council and Tower Hamlets residents is something that greatly appealed and I am now very much looking forward to getting started.”
Prior to his role at Islington where he has been responsible for all planned housing investment in the borough, fire and building safety, communal heating systems and improving the environmental efficiency of social housing stock, Mr Platt spent four and a half years at Hackney Council as Head of Building Maintenance and Estate Environment, having joined from Camden Council after a 17-year spell there where he held a number of roles, including leading on leasehold services and planned housing maintenance work.
David Joyce, Director for Housing and Regeneration, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome someone of Stephen’s calibre to Tower Hamlets and he joins us at an exciting time.
“As a council, we are working hard to continually improve our housing service following our self-referral to the housing regulator, and Stephen will play a key role in that journey as we drive forward our £140 million pound investment in our housing stock to improve decency standards and energy efficiency levels on our estates.
“He will also be leading the work to transform our housing repairs service, ensuring that the council properly engages with tenants and leaseholders in respect of building safety work, and he will lead work to ensure that the council sustains our improved position in housing compliance.
“The depth of his extensive experience which he will bring to the role will be invaluable and I am delighted he will be joining our team.”
