"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific antisemitic attack at Bondi Beach during a Chanukah menorah lighting in Sydney, Australia.
"Our thoughts are with all lives tragically lost and injured, and their loved ones at this devastating time, and with the Jewish community in Australia, here in Tower Hamlets and around the world.
"It is all the more appalling that this was a targeted assault during Chanukah, a time which should be marked by joy and celebration.
"We celebrate our diverse communities in Tower Hamlets and work to ensure our borough has No Place for Hate. We know that there may be heightened concerns following this appalling attack. If anyone in our community has any concerns, or would like to discuss any issues, please do contact hatecrime@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
"If you require any support, please make a referral to CATCH.
"Additionally, you can speak to your local Safer Neighbourhood Team who are policing Central East BCU and the police have confirmed additional patrols throughout the Chanukah period.
"The Metropolitan Police have released the following statement which says that: “while there is no information to suggest any link between the attack in Sydney and the threat level in London, this morning we are stepping up our police presence, carrying out additional community patrols and engaging with the Jewish community to understand what more we can do in the coming hours and days.”
"We always encourage the public to be vigilant at events and in public places. If you see anything suspicious, trust your instincts and report to the police. "
