Tower Hamlets has announced its new Young Mayor Team following a record-breaking election that saw 7,719 votes cast by young people across the borough - the highest turnout in the history of the borough.
Musa Noor was inaugurated as the new Young Mayor of Tower Hamlets on Tuesday 9 December, with a team of five deputies; Amaira Katyal, Eliyah Miah, Salena Miah, Latisha Ojo, and Nikol Rakhman.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Haileybury Youth Centre, one of 19 youth centres in Tower Hamlets that provides a dedicated safe space for young people to learn, grow, and develop their skills and passions.
The event was attended by the 14 Young Mayor candidates, their families and friends, youth workers, the outgoing Young Mayor Team, and Deputy Mayor of Tower Hamlets Maium Talukdar.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said:
“I’m incredibly proud of the new Young Mayor Team and all the hard work they’ve put in to get to this stage.
“Standing for election amongst your peers takes courage, and these six young people have shown real leadership and commitment in their campaigns. They are now the official representatives of the voices of young people in Tower Hamlets, and I look forward to seeing their ideas come to life.”
He also praised the outgoing team for their achievements, noting that former Young Mayor Fetuma Hasan is now studying Governance at Harvard University, while Deputy Young Mayor Rochelle Lewis-Geary is pursuing Politics at Warwick University.
Deputy Mayor Maium Talukdar, Cabinet Member for Education, Youth and Lifelong Learning, said:
“Huge well done to the newly elected Young Mayor Team. This is an important and prestigious role and I’m sure the Young Mayor and Deputies will do an amazing job.
“From the day I met our candidates at the Young Mayor Inductions, they shared their ideas and excitement for the role, and I look forward to seeing these visions become a reality.
“I have no doubt that you’ll have an amazing term ahead.”

After a series of workshops and interviews, 14 candidates were shortlisted and supported with training before launching their campaigns. Voting took place from 1-7 December across schools and colleges in Tower Hamlets.
