The walk begins at King’s Hall on Commercial Road, where a memorial meeting, organised by Ayub Ali and Abdul Majid Qureshi, was held to honour Indian seamen who lost their lives during World War II.

Stories of the past shimmer in present day locations as we weave through Aldgate, with a nod to Brick Lane.  The walk concludes at 13 Sandy Row, the former residence of Ayub Ali.

This walk has been developed by walk leader Mustaq Ahmed. Mustaq is a local artist who has lived most of his life in Tower Hamlets.  He has been developing his interest on local heritage. This walk is his latest heritage initiative and presents his research into the lascar activism of Sylheti sailors.  The lascars served British merchant ships for more than a century, they began the Bengal settlement in the East End of London.
