Hosted by Poet Nike Shonibare, Black History Month Open Mic Night brings Black poets, writers and spoken-word performers together at Oxford House for an evening celebrating creativity, storytelling and the lyrical heritage of the East End.
Taking place during Black History Month, and in celebration of National Poetry Day and Nigerian Independence Day, the evening creates a space for voices and perspectives that have often been overlooked in accounts of the East End.
The event will also pay homage to the East End’s rich Grime heritage, exploring the connections between poetry, music, identity and place. Through live writing and performance, the evening celebrates the role of Black communities in shaping the cultural identity of the East End.
