Fire safety in schools

Under the requirements of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety order (RRFSO) 2005, the responsible person for the premises must ensure that a fire safety risk assessment is completed for the building and kept under review. The results of the assessment should be made available to staff and others working in the building.

It is also the responsibility of the Headteacher and governing body of the premises to ensure that fire evacuation drills are carried out.

Because all buildings are different and risks associated with the building maybe varied, it is not possible to construct a model procedure that will be suitable for use in all premises and situations.

Fire evacuation procedures should be kept as concise and focused as possible, specifically tailored and designed for the premises.
