young mayor applications open

Applications are open for young people in the borough to apply to become the next Young Mayor or part of the deputy team.

The Young Mayor and deputies are the voice of young people in the borough and they work closely with other local young people and services to understand their issues and raise concerns by:

  • representing young people locally and nationally,
  • getting involved in the Tower Hamlets Youth Council and other local youth forums,
  • attending events and organising special projects and,
  • influencing and steering strategic decisions that affect young people in the borough.

The Young Mayor and deputies serve a two-year term, with the next elections in October 2023.

This is a great opportunity for young people to have their say. Please encourage teachers to share this information with students and submit their application before 1 October 2023.

The current Young Mayor, Tahmid Hussen, said:

“I’ve considerably developed confidence and self-esteem during my term. Interacting with different types of people from all ages has helped me become a much more outgoing individual in a professional setting."

Mohsen Ali, Deputy Young Mayor, said:

"Being tasked to communicate with new people led me to build up my confidence and boost my skills in public speaking.

"I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Young Mayor Team and youth council, and we have definitely created some memories which will not be forgotten.

"Applying for young mayor is an opportunity you would not want to miss."
