HUNDREDS of job seekers got hands on experience of the building trade at a special Construction Careers Showcase 2026 event held in Tower Hamlets last week.

Tower Hamlets is the fastest growing place in the country in terms of population and development. Since 2011, Tower Hamlets has delivered more than 38,000 homes – more than any other London borough – and granted consent for over 9,000 additional homes in the past year.

With the borough positioned to deliver at scale, a career in the construction industry is a strong choice for young people as well as adults looking to change career.

The Construction Careers Showcase 2026, held at Tower Hamlets Town Hall on Thursday (2 July), was open to job seekers of all ages and gave people the chance to speak directly to developers and contractors working in various roles in the construction industry, as well as try out skills like drilling and plastering.

Cllr Shenaly Miah, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Enterprise, Skills and Growth, attended the event, and said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for people to experience some of the different jobs that are part of the construction industry. It isn’t just about laying bricks, our event showed there are jobs behind desks as well as out on site. There’s a lot of opportunities and progression in construction and this is certainly the case in Tower Hamlets.”

Piotr Jarosz, Project Manager of Ozel Group Ltd, a specialist drylining contractor that is working on housing development sites in Tower Hamlets, was one of the companies who took part in the event. He said: “It was a pleasure and a fantastic experience to take part and meet so many young people who are interested in our trade.”

The Construction Careers Showcase was organised by WorkPath, the council's employment and skills service. This service support residents at every stage of their journey into work and regularly holds career events.
