Food safety and health awards

The health of our residents is very important to us at Tower Hamlets Council, and we take great care to ensure that food is prepared safely and hygienically. We carry out regular safety inspections and make sure that we are always aware of the most up-to-date food safety regulations.

In this section you can find out about different licences for food-serving businesses, such as street cafés and butchers’ shops.

Food safety inspections

We carry out regular checks on all food premises to ensure the public is protected and that high standards are maintained.

Food safety regulations

We are responsible for ensuring that businesses comply with food safety regulations. We try to ensure that all their activities are carried out in a hygienic way.

Food for Health Awards

The award is open to all food businesses in Tower Hamlets where food is served or sold, including restaurants, cafés, hotels, pubs, sandwich shops, work canteens, home caterers and takeaways.

If your business reached the minimum acceptable food hygiene standards on your last hygiene inspection, you’ll automatically become eligible to apply for the award.
