Training opportunities

We recognise the incredible contribution made by local Voluntary and Community Sector organisations (VCS) in helping residents in the borough.

We know that demand on local VCS organisations is increasing and that is having an impact on staffing. Organisations and individuals are having to adapt and stay ahead of frequent policy changes in a stressful and emotionally challenging environment.

To help the sector, the council is supporting VCS organisations with free access to volunteers through our volunteering hub with Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets.

We continue to signpost the sector towards local, regional and national grant schemes. These can help organisations in Tower Hamlets with unexpected costs, loss of income or new projects. This with the view to help organisations in Tower Hamlets build their capacity and become more resilient and financially sustainable.

This page outlines some of the training opportunities available for VCS organisations in Tower Hamlets.

Please contact Tower Hamlets Council for Voluntary Service (THCVS) for any advice and support.

THCVS is offering its member organisations high–quality training, workshops, courses, and events courses to help them grow stronger and more resilient as organisations.

FREE* Training: Recruiting the Right Volunteers Wednesday 21 February 2024, 10.30am to 1pm, on Zoom

Organisations are finding fewer volunteers because of the ongoing cost of living crisis. VCTH offers practical and interactive online training to help you adapt and recruit volunteers to continue delivering vital services.

The training will examine what currently motivates people to volunteer. It will adapt or frame roles to be more appealing to potential volunteers. It will reduce barriers and offer more development opportunities. It will also explore different recruitment methods and channels for advertising volunteer opportunities.

This session is for experienced volunteer managers and new volunteer managers. The session will be held on Zoom. If you are given a spot, you will receive a link to join the training on Zoom. Make sure you have a good internet connection and the latest version of Zoom downloaded.

Organisations in the voluntary sector that have an office in Tower Hamlets or provide services for Tower Hamlets residents will be given priority. The City Bridge Foundation funds the session. It is free for voluntary sector and public sector organisations. These organisations should have a base/office in Tower Hamlets or provide services for Tower Hamlets residents.

However, if you don't attend without giving 48 hours' notice, there will be a charge of £50. This charge will be invoiced to your organisation. If you cancel at least 48 hours before the session starts, there is no charge.

If your organisation is not based in Tower Hamlets or does not provide services in the area, the session will cost £50 per person.

The fee is non-refundable unless you give 48 hours notice of cancellation.
