- help to meet one off expenses for essential items; where not having essential white goods, beds or mattresses affecting your living circumstances.

Citizens Advice Bureau
The Citizens Advice Bureau help people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.

Energy Saving Trust provides information and advice on subjects including:

Get free quotes for gas and electricity by using the below comparison websites. These websites allow you to make direct comparisons between multiple energy companies both large and small, and help you to decide who to switch to. Amongst comparing gas and electricity prices, you can also use these websites to compare other services such as car insurance, credit cards and loans etc.

Cold weather payment
Some people who receive benefits can also get a cold weather payment of £25 if the temperature drops below freezing in their local area for seven days in a row. You don't need to apply – if you are eligible it will be paid automatically in the same way that people receive their benefits.
Winter fuel payment
If you were born on or before July 5, 1952 (for winter 2014 to 2015 - this date changes every year), you may get a Winter Fuel Payment to help with winter heating costs. This will be paid in the same way your benefit or pension is paid. If you’ve not received a Winter Fuel Payment before, phone the Winter Fuel Payments helpline on 0845 915 1515 to apply.
