Lithium battery fires

Lithium batteries have caused fires in the rubbish lorries. Please do not put batteries in your waste or recycling bin. All batteries (including lithium batteries from e-bikes and e-scooters and other re-chargeable devices) can be taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Northumberland Wharf.

Airborne dust

Dust can be considered a nuisance if it can be shown to be harmful to the health of the average person or if it is interfering with the use or enjoyment of your property.

Airborne dust can arise from many activities, such as:

  • demolition,
  • construction
  • and industrial processes.

Report an issue

In most cases the best solution is to report dust issues to the company or person responsible for them. They may be unaware that their activities are causing problems.

If this method proves ineffective, please contact the Council. If, upon investigation, the dust is found to be a statutory nuisance, the Council may consider taking formal enforcement action.

If you would like to report a problem related to dust emissions, please email: Environmental.Protection@towerhamlets.gov.uk or call 020 7364 5000

Please provide

  • a description of the problem,
  • the address of the problem site,
  • your name, address and contact details.

Issues of dust arising from sites handling waste are covered the Environment Agency (EA). In the event of a dust nuisance from a site handling waste, the EA should be contacted on 0800 80 70 60 or the link above.
