Lithium battery fires

Lithium batteries have caused fires in the rubbish lorries. Please do not put batteries in your waste or recycling bin. All batteries (including lithium batteries from e-bikes and e-scooters and other re-chargeable devices) can be taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Northumberland Wharf.

Odour pollution

Odour is a form of air pollution that can arise from industrial and commercial activities.

The Council cannot intervene in matters related to domestic odours such as cigarette smoke and domestic cooking.

Odour issues can often be resolved by directly contacting the source. In many cases the person causing the odour may be unaware that their activities are causing a nuisance to their neighbours.

If you smell gas please contact National Gas Emergencies number immediately on 0800 111 999   

If you smell petrol or something that you deem to pose serious and immediate threat to your health, please contact the emergency services.
