London Youth Games
The London Youth Games (LYG) is Europe’s largest community youth sporting competition.
Young people can represent their boroughs through sport.
In all the 32 London boroughs and the City of London, young people can come together to compete and play in 27 sports – more than the Winter Olympics and Paralympics!
Who can participate?
The games are open to young people living in or attending school in any of London’s 32 boroughs and the City of London. Borough teams are organised locally.
Team Tower Hamlets entered an impressive 27 sports in the 2025 season, providing a diverse range of opportunities for young people to access sport and physical activities.

Tower Hamlets excelled in multiple sports throughout the season with highlights including:
- Silver (2nd) in Badminton
- Silver (2nd) in Kayak Sprint
- Silver (2nd) in Table Tennis Female
- Bronze (3rd) in Kayak Slalom
2026 events
Events ran from November to July, finishing in a celebratory Finals Festival on 4 and 5 July 2026.
Tower Hamlets Win Boys' Hockey Silver at the London Youth Games 2026
The 2026 London Youth Games Boys’ Hockey Competition delivered an incredible day of sportsmanship and competition on 4 July 2026, as 200 young people from across London came together at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre for a chance to compete against their peers.
A silver medal finish for the young athletes from the borough of Tower Hamlets was fantastic reward for a team that performed brilliantly throughout the day. In the final they competed against Bromley, with the final ending 1-1. They went onto a penalty stroke competition, with Bromley just clinching the win.
18 boys’ teams competed in round robin matches throughout the day, before moving into the knockout stages – with teams fiercely competing for a podium place.
The 2026 Hockey Competition highlighted the power of sport to build confidence, resilience, and community.
The event was brilliantly supported by the Borough Team Organisers, Team Managers, parents and volunteers, whose support ensured a memorable experience for all involved.
The London Youth Games Foundation supports more than 10,000 young people across London each year, delivering opportunities across 37 sports for all 32 boroughs & the City of London.
The weekend also saw the girls table tennis team narrowly miss out on a place in the finals, achieving a respectable fifth position.
In this year’s games, Team Tower Hamlets achieved 17 Top 10 positions, gaining two Silver and one Bronze.

Borough Team Organisers (BTO) enable young people to take part in the games. Our local BTO is responsible for selecting participants to take part in the games for Tower Hamlets.
Our mission is to empower young people through sport, offering a dynamic platform for participation, competition and personal growth.
We are committed to promoting inclusivity, teamwork, and excellence, encouraging youth from all backgrounds to lead active, healthy lives while building friendships and developing vital life skills.
Through sport, we aim to inspire the next generation of athletes and leaders, leaving a lasting legacy of community engagement and passion for sport across the capital.
Team Tower Hamlets competes in both the open games and school games taking part in various sports during the competitions.
