Request a site inspection

Any building work subject to building regulations needs to be inspected by us as it progresses, to ensure it complies with the regulations.

After submitting your application, you must let us know when the work is starting so that we can make an inspection.

You must let us know of your intention to start the work by submitting a commencement notice at least two working days before work starts.

Commencement notice form (word)

Please send your completed form to:

You must also notify us at other stages of the work so that we can arrange further site inspections.

The timing of site visits is important because in some cases once a stage of work is complete it cannot be viewed (e.g. excavations for foundations).

How to notify us and request a site inspection

We will generally be able to visit on the same day if an inspection is requested by phone before 10am (Monday to Friday).

Inspection fees

If you have applied for building regulations approval by way of the full plans procedure, then you need to pay the fee when the first site inspection is carried out. For all other applications the inspection fee is already covered in the application charge.

For details on our fees please refer to our fees and charges document (pdf).
