Evidence accepted

All applications will be checked on the Department for Work & Pension (DWP) system for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for “higher rate mobility” or “Moving around” only. If you do not meet the eligibility for DLA or PIP, you must contact DWP. 

Example of evidence that will be accepted

  • Evidence of specialist consultant (for example) Clinical Psychologist, Educational Psychologist, Neurologist, Rheumatologist, Psychiatrist & Gastroenterologist must be dated in the last 12 months. 

  • Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI) form or LBTH registration letter. 

  • Tower Hamlets community learning disability team

  • Audiogram

  • Speech and language assessment report 

  • Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) 

  • Personal Independence Payments (PIP) 

  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

Documents not accepted 

Examples of documents that are not considered valid evidence: General Practitioner (GP) letters, photographs of injuries or disabilities, appointment letters (such as discharge summaries, medical history, or medication lists), and statement of fitness for work (fit note). 

Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and Care Plans are not accepted under the learning disability. If you are aged 16 or over, you may instead be eligible for PIP.

You must not already be receiving PIP to apply under the learning disability eligibility. If you are currently receiving PIP, you must apply under the “Communicating” activity; otherwise, your application will be rejected.

Please note that applications under learning disability category will not be accepted for individuals whose needs relate to dyslexia, speech delay, epilepsy, mental health, hidden disability, learning difficulties or mild to moderate learning disabilities.

Evidence must be based on an impartial and factual assessment or report provided by a qualified consultant or specialist. A supporting letter or letter telling us you meet the criteria will not be accepted.

If you are unable to provide the above accepted documents or meet the eligibility, then we will not be able to process your application.
